Sounds familiar?

Is this your situation?

  • You live abroad and run your Croatian company remotely.
  • You moved to Croatia and founded a d.o.o. or j.d.o.o.
  • Your current accountant only communicates in Croatian.
  • Letters from the Tax Administration arrive and you cannot tell what they mean.
  • You are not sure which deadlines your company has — or whether they were met.
  • You are about to hire your first employee in Croatia.

If any of this sounds familiar, you are exactly the kind of client we work with.

English Who we are

An English-speaking accountant for your Croatian company

Running a company in Croatia means following Croatian accounting rules, filing returns with the Tax Administration and FINA, and keeping up with changes such as Fiscalisation 2.0 — all of it in Croatian. DECIO is an accounting practice based in Sinj, near Split, and we work with company owners across Croatia.

You get one dedicated accountant who knows your company. Documents travel by email or a shared folder, questions are answered by email, phone, WhatsApp or video call, and every month you know where your company stands — without visiting an office.

We work with limited liability companies (d.o.o.) and simple limited liability companies (j.d.o.o.) owned by individuals and companies from the EU and beyond — in consulting and IT, tourism, real estate, trade and services.

What we do

Everything your Croatian company needs from an accountant

One fixed monthly fee covers the work agreed in your quote. These are the services foreign-owned companies need most often:

Bookkeeping in English

Double-entry bookkeeping as Croatian law requires — invoices, bank statements, cash and fixed assets — with a regular summary for you in English.

VAT returns

Monthly or quarterly VAT returns, plus the ZP (EC sales list) and PDV-S forms for EU transactions — filed on time, with the amount to pay explained.

Payroll and JOPPD

Salaries for employees and directors, contributions and the JOPPD report filed with every payment, including registrations with the pension and health insurance institutes.

Annual accounts and corporate tax

Annual financial statements (GFI) for FINA and the corporate income tax return, both due by 30 April, plus the monthly tax advances.

E-invoicing (Fiscalisation 2.0)

Since 1 January 2026 Croatian businesses exchange structured e-invoices. We help you set up the process and book your e-invoices correctly.

Tax Administration letters

We read letters and requests from the Tax Administration, explain them in English and reply on your behalf — including during inspections.

Profit distribution

When the company has profit to pay out, we prepare the documents and calculate the withholding tax on dividends paid to foreign owners.

Switching accountants

We take over your books from your previous accountant — also in the middle of the year — check the balances and continue without a gap.

Working together online

How online cooperation works

You authorise us with the Croatian Tax Administration once. From then on we file your returns electronically on your behalf.

You send documents by email or a shared folder. We keep the records, file every return on time and send you a clear overview in English.

Key deadlines

What a Croatian d.o.o. has to file — and when

An overview of the main recurring obligations. We keep track of all of them for you.

Obligation When
VAT return (if the company is in the VAT system) Monthly or quarterly, by the last day of the following month
JOPPD report on salaries and other payments On the day the payment is made
Corporate income tax advance payments Monthly, based on the previous year's tax
Annual financial statements (GFI) to FINA By 30 April for the previous year
Corporate income tax return (PD form) By 30 April for the previous year
E-invoices under Fiscalisation 2.0 For invoices between businesses, since 1 January 2026

Corporate income tax is 10% for companies with annual revenue up to €1,000,000 and 18% above that. A deadline that falls on a weekend or public holiday moves to the next working day.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a foreigner own a company in Croatia?

Yes. Individuals and companies from the EU and from outside the EU can own a Croatian d.o.o. or j.d.o.o. If you also plan to live or work in Croatia yourself, residence and work-permit rules apply separately from owning the company.

Do I need to come to Croatia or to your office?

No. Documents are exchanged by email or a shared folder, we talk by phone, WhatsApp or video call, and we file returns electronically through the ePorezna system on your company's behalf once you have authorised us.

Will I receive reports and explanations in English?

Yes. Official returns are filed in Croatian, because the Tax Administration and FINA require it, but everything we send you — summaries, explanations, payment instructions and answers to your questions — is in English.

How much does accounting for a d.o.o. cost?

We charge a fixed monthly fee that depends on the number of documents and employees and on whether your company is in the VAT system. After a short call you receive a written quote — indicative prices are on our pricing page.

Can you take over from my current accountant in the middle of the year?

Yes. We take over the books, check and reconcile the balances with your previous accountant and carry on without a gap. Switching at the start of a month or quarter keeps the handover simplest.

Do I have to pay myself a salary as director?

Not always. It depends on where you live, where you are insured and what your role in the company is — a director who lives in Croatia is treated differently from one who lives and is insured in another country. We look at your situation before the company pays anything, so you avoid unexpected contribution debts.

What is Fiscalisation 2.0 and does it affect my company?

Fiscalisation 2.0 is Croatia's e-invoicing and e-reporting system. Since 1 January 2026, companies in the VAT system issue and receive structured e-invoices for sales to other Croatian businesses and report them to the Tax Administration, and companies outside the VAT system must be able to receive them. We help you set it up and keep it running.
